This Accident Investigation Class focuses on how to conduct a workplace accident/incident investigation. As well as how to use the information to prevent recurrence of injuries and illness in your workplace. Topics covered include:
- defining an injury or incident
- root cause analysis
- the steps involved in accident investigation
- setting up an effective reporting process.
OSHA strongly encourages employers to investigate all accidents in which a worker was hurt, as well as any close calls (sometimes called “near misses”).
Investigating a work site incident— a fatality, injury, illness, or close call— provides employers and workers the opportunity to identify hazards. Hazards within their operations and their safety and health programs. Most importantly, it helps employers and workers identify and take any actions necessary to prevent future incidents.
Accident investigations that focus on identifying and fixing root causes, improve workplace morale and increase productivity. It demonstrates an employer’s commitment to a safe and healthy workplace.
